About the Ut Prosim Scholars

  • Marc Edwards is a University Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech where he teaches environmental engineering, applied aquatic chemistry, and applied ethics. His research group conducted the investigative science uncovering the Washington D.C.; Flint, Michigan; and other water crises.
  • Carla Finkielstein is a professor and scientific director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at  Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the College of Science. Her group studies how environmental factors influence cancer initiation and progression. In 2020, Finkielstein developed and implemented a COVID test that has generated results for almost a quarter million individuals in Southwest Virginia.
  • Linsey Marr’s research group applies an interdisciplinary approach to solve problems at the intersection of air quality engineering and public health. Prior to the pandemic, she was one of a small number of scientists who studied viruses in the air. Outside of work, she is an avid recreational athlete.
