Cornerstone Alumni Book Club
Join fellow Hokies for a virtual book club. We'll be exploring four books published by faculty from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
The books will highlight a variety of disciplines. Authors and subject matter experts will join you online to discuss their research and lead a Q&A about the books.
- What: “Acquired Tastes: Stories about the Origins of Modern Food" with Anna Zeide
- When: Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. via Zoom
- Cost: Registration is $25, which includes the cost of the book and a $5 gift to the Food Studies program at Virginia Tech.
- About: Award-winning author Anna Zeide. Zeide is one of the book's contributors. Zeide is an associate professor in the History Department and founding director of the Food Studies Program at Virginia Tech. The book explores the modern obsession with convenience food and details the ever-changing food industry’s role in modernizing society and changing the way we eat, one bite at a time.
- What: Book Discussion with Paul Quigley
- When: Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. via Zoom
- Cost: Registration is $25, which includes the cost of the book and $5 gift to the James Bud Robertson Jr. Memorial Endowment at Virginia Tech.
- About: Paul Quigley, associate professor and director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies, will lead a discussion on the book "The Untold War" by James I. Robertson. Quigley is currently researching Preston Books and political violence in the 1850s, mapping the Fourth of July in the American Civil War Era, and the American Civil War.
