Hokie Hike 2023

How does the hike work?

Participating is easy. Sign up to participate and we'll mail you hiking gear. A portion of the cost of signing up is a gift supporting outdoor activities for current students. Then, during the hiking window, hit the outdoors with your gear and post your photo using #HokieHike.

I'm not outdoorsy. Do I have to hike?

No, your hike can be any physical activity you want. Take a stroll through your neighborhood, a trek through a local museum, or a climb up a mountain.

I am not local to the Virginia Tech area. Can I still join?

Yes, you can join the hike from wherever you are. Hike on your own or find a local meetup

My local alumni chapter wants to organize a hike meetup. Who should I contact?

What's the story behind this year's design? The hiker looks familar.

This year's Hokie Hike shirt design and crossbody bag serve as a nod to Addison Caldwell, the university's first student. Caldwell hiked 26 miles to attend his first day of class in 1872. His statue sits on the stairs to the Upper Quad, looking up at Lane Hall.

I'm a Virginia Tech student. How does the student option work?

This year we have a discounted option for students that they can pick up in person. Students will get details by email about how to sign up and where to pick up their gear. The student option is $15 and includes a t-shirt and sticker. Quantities are limited.

The student option does not include the crossbody bag and the pet option cannot be added. Students can sign up for the general package to get these items and have their gear mailed.
