Chapter Cheers: Brain School with Fralin Biomedical Research Institute

Registration is free and includes Fralin Biomedical Research Institute stress swag. Registrants will also receive a 2024 Brain School Certificate of Completion following the event.

Join fellow alumni virtually and watch the live Brain School event, "The Craving Brain: Food and Drugs," taking place at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke. Participants will hear from multiple experts on addiction and the brain.

Schedule

  • 6 p.m. Warren Bickel will give an overview of addiction and the brain, followed by a five minute Q&A.
  • 6:25 p.m. Alex DiFeliceantonio will discuss food, the brain, and addiction, followed by a five minute Q&A.
  • 6:55 p.m. Bickel will wrap with remarks about recent GLP-1 findings.
  • 7:05 p.m. Michael Friedlander will introduce a panel discussion.
  • 7:30 p.m. Program ends.

About the speakers

Warren Bickel, Ph.D.

Warren Bickel is the director for both the Addiction Recovery Research Center and the Center for Health Behaviors Research. He is also a behavioral health research professor at Virginia Tech Carilion. His research focuses on understanding, preventing, and treating addiction.

Alex DiFeliceantonio, Ph.D.

Alex DiFeliceantonio is an assistant professor at Virginia Tech and the associate director of the Center for Health Behaviors Research. Her research focuses on how brains influence food preference.

Michael Friedlander, Ph.D.

Michael Friedlander is the executive director of Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, Virginia Tech vice president for Health Sciences and Technology, and senior dean for research at the Virginia Tech School of Medicine. His research focuses on exploring the cellular processes underlying synaptic plasticity.
