Charlie Wood
Charles T. “Charlie” Wood is a native of Alleghany County, VA. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1970 with a BA in economics. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He began an extensive career with Southern States Cooperative, where he served multiple locations across the mid-Atlantic and advanced to vice president of retail. Mr. Wood also founded a human resource consulting firm, Attributes for Success, in 2004.
Following an early retirement from Southern States Cooperative in 2002, Mr. Wood founded Career Prospectors, a non-profit career search support group. Dedicated to the university’s motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Mr. Wood has worked with volunteers to connect thousands of professionals to new jobs. He was named the 2016 Henrico Community Leader of the Year by Chamber RVA’s Henrico Business Council for his leadership in helping job seekers.
In addition to service on the Alumni Board of Directors, Mr. Wood’s record of service to the university community includes serving as president of the Richmond Alumni Chapter, involvement in the Hokies for Higher Education legislative advocacy group, and as a member of the Leadership Council for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He is also a member of the Virginia Tech Athletics Hokie Club. In 2005, he began to inquire about classmate and Medal of Honor recipient, Lt. Gary Lee Miller. He worked to find the documentation and in 2020 Miller’s name was etched alongside Virginia Tech’s seven other Medal of Honor recipients on the marble cenotaph on the court above War Memorial Chapel.
He resides in Richmond, VA with his wife Jane Wood and near the families of his three children and seven grandchildren.
