John Lawson

John Lawson is executive chairman of W. M. Jordan Company, a privately held construction management and development firm founded in Newport News, VA by John’s father, Bob Lawson, and Bill Jordan. Born and raised in Newport News, John began his career at W. M. Jordan in 1975 after graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in geophysics. Under his leadership, W. M. Jordan has grown with annual revenues in excess of $700 million providing services to diverse clientele across Virginia and the Carolinas.

As executive chairman, John’s focus is on advancing corporate innovation and development opportunities throughout our region. John is a champion for the community, supporting growth and involvement through numerous nonprofit and civic organizations. He is currently a board member of the Christopher Newport University Board of Visitors, Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD), TowneBank, ivWatch, Peninsula Airport Commission, Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech, and Hampton Roads Executive Roundtable. John was the co-chair for Virginia Tech's $1 billion comprehensive campaign, chairman for Christopher Newport University’s $67 million comprehensive campaign, and chairman of CHKD’s $60 million campaign for mental and behavioral health.
